Help Us Choose Our Next Cause
18 September 2026Since 2023, we've been backing the NZ Whale and Dolphin Trust, and it's one of our favourite things we do. Hector's dolphins are on our bottle, in our name, and found nowhere else on Earth; so partnering with the people protecting them was an easy yes.
Now summer's rolling in, and with it, more of us are back on the water, back on the sand, and back in the parts of New Zealand this brand was built around. So, we're widening the net.
What's changing
The Trust isn't going anywhere. They're still the first call we make and the cause closest to home. But we want to put some of our support behind the smaller, harder-working groups looking after our beaches and coastline too; the ones picking up rubbish before sunrise, running water safety programmes, restoring dunes, or keeping an eye on local marine life without much fanfare.
The problem is, we don't want to guess which ones. You're the people actually spending your summer on the coastlines and your money on our product that let’s us donate to these charities. You'd know better than we would.
How to nominate a charity
- Comment on our post or reply to this note with the charity's name and what they do. If you’re a charity, we would love to hear from you via PR@hectorsspirits.nz.
- Tell us why it matters to you; a personal connection always helps us understand the impact.
- Keep it coastal or beach-focused, and based here in Aotearoa.
We're reading every single suggestion, not skimming for the popular ones. Over the next few weeks we'll shortlist a handful and let you know which ones we've chosen to back, with full visibility on where the support goes and why.
Why this matters to us
Hector's was never going to be a brand that just borrows the coastline for a nice bottle design and calls it a day. If we're using the dolphin, the sand ripples, the native botanicals, we think we owe something back to the place they come from. This is a small part of that, but it's the part where you get a say.
Got a charity in mind? Drop it in the comments on Instagram, or reply directly. We can't wait to see what you come back with.
